Closing the CIO Leaders Summit Hong Kong, is Derek Ariss, Former Head of Innovation for Lendlease. Derek engaged the audience with an interactive, workshop style presentation on today’s need for innovation. Drawing from his experience at LendLease, Derek highlighted how construction and development companies are instrumental in shaping cities such as Sydney, London and Kuala Lumpar.

 

Derek will discussed one Innovation Journey from ground zero—highlighting the development of an innovation culture and how innovation can permeate across in Sustainability, Retail, Construction and Business Networks across businesses. From that he demonstrated how any organisation can quickly start on the Innovation Journey and get results. Once describing the Journey, and providing real innovations, incremental and disruptive Derek then conducted a 15 minute idea generation workshop showing how industry sectors can walk away with ideas that are relevant to their industry. Attendees walked away with a new perspective and a few idea generating tools to add to their existing Innovation Toolkit.

 

Derek was appointed Head of Innovation for Lendlease Asia in 2013, and was based in Singapore. As Head of Innovation for Lend Lease in Asia, Derek was responsible for:
– the design of processes to deliver improved Lend Lease products and systems,
– nurturing a culture of innovation for Lend Lease in Asia,
– developing productive network relationships with organisations that share Lend Lease’s position on innovation and growth

Prior to his role at LendLease, Derek  was also Head of Retail Operations, Asia overseeing all retail assets Lend Lease manages across the region and possesses vast experience in property management, marketing and general management. Derek’s extensive and broad experience in all things Innovation was extremely valuable to all attendees of IT Leaders.

Jacqueline Teo, Head of IT, Telstra Talks Big Data – It Just Got a Whole Lot Bigger

Jacqueline Teo, Head of IT Integration and Transformations for Telstra, spoke on Big Data Just Got A Whole Lot Bigger, at the 3rd Annual CIO Leaders Summit Hong Kong. Jacqueline engaged the audience with her presentation especially with big data being a hot topic throughout the Summit. In the session Jacqueline helped the IT Leaders to better understand the difficulties for an organisation to blend data and create the insights needed. She also highlighted how fellow IT Leaders can further their organisation from the big amounts of data and how to properly utilise that data and build insights that create a competitive advantage.

 

As a senior IT Leader, Jacqueline is responsible for overseeing the portfolio and the delivery of information technology services at Telstra International Group. Jacqueline has over 18 years of experience in various functions of IT and consulting. Previously the CIO of Tabcorp Gaming and International, a global entertainment company, she has also held senior technology roles at FOXTEL, the Pay TV subsidiary of Telstra Corporation. Prior to joining FOXTEL, Jacqueline managed the Communications, Media and Entertainment businesses across Asia Pacific for Hewlett Packard and KPMG.

Panel Discusses Network Security – What’s New and How to Combat New Risks

Day 2 of the CIO Leaders Summit Hong Kong, hosted a  panel discussion on Network Security –  What’s New in Cyber Security? How are CIO’s Combatting New Security Risks?  Moderated by Andrew Anker, the panel engaged the audience with their expert thoughts on the growing risks of the Digital Age. Andrew is the former CISO for AIA Insurance and is an experienced senior leaders driving business transformation through innovative technology adoption. Andrew also addresses the cyber security agenda across Asia. Andrew’s career is extensive and spans from roles including Board Member to Functional Leader.

 

Also going the Panel was Shane Read, CISO for Noble Resources and is based in Hong Kong. Shane has previously been with the Australian Federal Government for 15 years, mainly in the Department of Defense. Shane oversaw the Department as their Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO). Shane brought his passion for the industry, along with this broad experience to the panel. Shane believes that CISOs must continue to build the Boardroom’s understanding of InfoSec and the delivering of overall programs. He also highlighted the need to keep up to date and experiment with new and emerging technologies.

 

Finally, Martin Eber, Head of Business Information & Risk, Asia Pacific, HSBC, going as the final panelist. Martin encompasses over 11 years experience in the Information Security and Technology Risk sector. Working directly with business and function management to ensure InfoSec and technology risks are suitably managed, identified and mitigated through the establishment and improvement of strong IT control environment. He was worked in a number of varying industries from Assurance, Consulting and now Finance. Currently Martin oversees 275 Divisional Business Information Risk Officers responsible for the daily first line Information Risk Management of global bank gin & markets. Martin also functions in 19 countries across Asia Pacific. Martin’s unique and broad experience brought valuable insight to the panel and to the audience of Asia’s top IT Leaders.

Kicking off Day 2 of the CIO Leaders Summit HK is Steve Monaghan, Regional Director, Head of Edge, AIA

Day 2 of the Annual CIO Leaders Summit Hong Kong, opened with Steve Monaghan, Regional Director, Head of Edge, AIA. Steve is Regional Director, Head of Edge AIA and is accountable for group innovation agenda and a Limited Partner in True Global Ventures focused on Fintech. Steve has held various senior corporate roles in banking and has worked in marketing, operations and general management. He has worked for a number of leading corporations and financial institutions such as DELL, DBS, OCBS and Citigroup. Throughout his career, Steve has specialised in introducing new business models, businesses and products in all major markets in Asia.

 

During his presentation, Steve spoke on the Dynamics of Change as well as the impact of emerging technology while trying to engage the organisation. Steve  captivated the audience of high-level IT executives by speaking on Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain. Steve believed that AI and Blockchain contains the capacity to hyper-deflate the cost of doing business. The session also delved into identifying both the opportunity and impact of these and other technologies on business and markets.

 

Steve was on the startup team for Dell Computer, introducing Dell’s consumer business to Asia. Later he developed and executed the branded manufacturing and retail model catapulting Compaq to number one in the Indian consumer market. In banking Steve developed and patented the first mobile payments platform for Citigroup, developed a Consumer Finance Division for OCBC and lead the retail bank turnaround of Shinsei Bank in Japan growing revenues USD$500M, deposits 25% and improving net income by USD$100M during a 9 month transformation. As Chief Innovation Officer for DBS Bank, Steve drove the innovation agenda focused on Intelligence, Big Data and Social culminating in the $220+M investment of DBS in IBM Watson, DBS A*Star R&D Lab and Digital Banking.

 

Steve is a frequent presenter and lecturer around the world on subjects including Innovation, banking, Working Capital, M&A and Investing in China. He co-authored a five-year China IPO study and has been frequently published on topics including Working Capital, Investing in China and Capital Collaboration. Steve holds an EMBA with ‘first in class academic standing’ from the Helsinki School of Economics and has attended senior leadership courses at IMD and Wharton.

Panel Discussion speaks on Unified Communications & Mobility Real Time

The 3rd Annual CIO Leaders Summit Hong Kong, hosted a panel discussion on Unified Communications and Mobility Real Time Problems and Solutions? Tablets and The Role They Play. Moderating the panel was Fletcher NG, Former Group CIO, Midland Holdings Limited who led the panel in this discussion. Fletcher has over 20 years experience in the IT sector and in managing high level projects for various industries. Recently Fletcher has also become a special advisor for the CIO Academy Asia. The CIO Academy Asia specialises in furthering the IT community across Asia and is a non-profit organisation.

 

The panel was joined by  President, Mobility and Collaboration Services at Tata Communications, Andrew Bartolo. As a senior leader with a strong record for success in bringing new technology solutions to market, Andrew has served in his current role for over three years. As the President of Mobility and Collaboration at Tata Group, Anthony is responsible for the strategy, product offering and development of the Mobility and Unified Communications services.

 

Also joining the panel was Paula Versteeg currently the Chief Information Office for Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong. Paula has amassed over 15 years of international work experience in various business analysis, problem solving, and leadership roles. As CIO, she oversees the implementation and management of all IT Services and Solutions of Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong.

 

Mai-Wah Cheung, Group Chief Information Officer for Next Media Ltd. was the final panelist. Mai-Wah has served as Next Media’s Group CIO/CTO for over a year. Previously holding senior IT positions with other media companies, Mai-Wah has over 10 years in the IT industry.

  • The importance of email and is it still relevant within the digital ecosystem?
  • How has mobility of communications changed the way that people work and are we better off for this?
  • How does the panel see the way teams and companies collaborate within this new digital ecosystem?

Inam Hussain, Head of Google for Work, Asia Speaks on Closing the Productivity Gap

Head of Google for Work, Asia, Inam Hussain spoke at the 3rd Annual CIO Leaders Summit Hong Kong. Inam delivered a though-provoking presentation on How Smart, Modern and Secure Organisations Are Closing the Productivity Gap. Inam spoke on today’s revolutionary way of work. Stressing that disruption is inevitable and is happening at a faster rate, Inam believed that today’s IT Leaders need to embrace a new way of working. If IT Leaders did not competitors will and the productivity gap will continue to widen. Inam spoke on Google’s aim to assist businesses in embracing the digital world and to take advantage of it from the inside out.

 

In the session, Inam engaged audiences by arming them with ideas to help fellow IT leaders to become stronger and more agile in today’s digital era. Inam also highlighted how organisations are embracing smart, unique and secure methods of working that unlock the potential of their own workforce. He insisted that these new methods also drove innovation and allowed their businesses to realise their full potential by embracing cloud technologies.

 

Joining Google in 2011, Inam is currently the Head of Google for Work, Asia. With an extensive resume, Inam has spent time in a diverse range of industries from; Telecommunications, Banking & Finance and Retail. During that time, Inam held various senior executive roles in Product marketing, Corporate Strategy, General Management and Business Development.

It was a rare opportunity for some of Asia’s top IT leaders to engage with Andrew as he examined the key challenges companies face in the development of collaboration tools. He also uncovered how unifies communications and mobility strategies can be effectively deployed on a global scale.

 

As a senior leader with a strong record for success in bringing new technology solutions to market, Andrew has served in his current role for over three years. As the President of Mobility and Collaboration at Tata Group, Anthony is responsible for the strategy, product offering and development of the Mobility and Unified Communications services.

 

Anthony has also held senior executive positions at Avaya and was instrumental in heading the largest pipeline of products in the company’s history between fiscal 2010 through 2012, with 130 new offerings across an extensive portfolio. Prior to his role at Avaya, Anthony was CEO of Skyrider, Inc. Anthony was also Vice President and General Manager at Symbol Technologies (not Motorola), where he was responsible for both the Wireless Infrastructure and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) divisions. At Avaya, Anthony was instrumental in fostering the largest pipeline of products in the company’s history between fiscal 2010 through 2012, with 130 new offering across a broad portfolio. He led the $2B+ Unified Communications Business Unit after successfully leading both the Small and Medium Enterprise Business Unit and Contact Center Business Units for Avaya. Anthony joined Avaya after serving as President and CEO of Skyrider, Inc. Also holding positions at Nortel Networks and has appeared on BBC, CNBC and ChannelNews Asia.

Panel Leads Discussion on Building a Successful Cloud Delivery Programme

The 3rd Annual CIO Leaders Summit Hong Kong hosted a panel discussion on Building a Successful Cloud Delivery Programme. Moderated by former Asia Head of Infrastructure for J.P Morgan Chase, Tim Taylor, the panel spoke on topics such as Business Case, Build, Migration and Operational Management. Tim led two functions within JPMorgan’s Global Technology Infrastructure (GTI) over his four years with the company. One of Tim’s functions was as Head of APAC Compute Infrastructure Services. Tim was accountable for the entire Compute Infrastructure product portfolio, also providing a direct engagement model to the business, delivering service management in a consultative model. Tim also served as the CTO for Hong Kong where he bartered with HK businesses to ensure delivery across all core infrastructure services.

 

Also joining the panel was Jacqueline Teo, Head of IT for Telstra. Jacqueline oversees the portfolio and the delivery of IT services at Telstra. With over 18 years experience, she was previously the CIO of Tabcorp Gaming and International. She has also held senior technology roles at Foxtel, a subsidiary of Telstra Corporation. Previously joining Foxtel, Jacqueline managed the Communications, Media and Entertainment businesses across Asia Pacific for Hewlett Packard and KPMG.

 

Fui Ping, APJ Cloud Chief Technologist for Hewlett Packard Enterprise, was also a panelist. Fui Ping is experienced in both design and implementation of Cloud Solutions in the Public Sector and Telco Service Provider industry. She has been vital in assisting customers define their cloud business goals, mapping it to a cloud roadmap journey and then customising it to an implantable cloud solution design. As the HP’s Cloud Chief Technologist for the Public Sector, Fui Ping seeks to propagate the G-Cloud successes.

 

The final panelist was Mark Griffith, Former General Manager Infrastructure for Cathay Pacific. Responsible for the strategic day-to-day operations for the IT department and was member of the senior IT Leadership group and accountable for nearly half of the Cathay Pacific’s IT Team. Working with the executive directors of the Airline to establish streams of work ranging from workplace transformation, security modernisation, development of a hybrid cloud platform and the transformation to two new software defined data centres.

 

Together the panel discussed topics from Business Case, Build, Migration and finally Operational Management; what changes are required of the team, processes and support partners to make a successful Cloud implementation.

Charles Mok Opens The 3rd Annual CIO Leaders Summit in Hong Kong

The 3rd Annual CIO Leaders Summit Hong Kong, was opened by the Honourable Charles Mok of the Legislative Council. Charles  is the Legislative Councillor who represents the Information Technology Functional Constituency. Serving the ICT industry for over 20 years, Charles is also currently the Vice Chairman of the Professional Commons, Honorary President of the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation and Founding Chairman of the Internet Society Hong Kong. Charles is an active member in public services with the outlook to uphold the core values of Hong Kong. A graduate from Purdue University, Charles is also serving on several advisory bodies in the Hong Kong Government.

 

Opening the Annual CIO Leaders Summit Hong Kong, Charles spoke on Opportunities and Challenges in Data Innovation. Charles spoke on CIOs who take a leadership role in order to reimagine their business and operating models based on new tools to extract value from data. He engaged the audience on a discussion on BI/analytics, cloud and mobile integration and how it will transform business processes and help companies grow. Also speaking on the landscape around data privacy and information security to its relevance on enterprise planning. This opened up a further conversation on Charles’ own perspective as an IT Legislator and how businesses should prepare to deal with regulatory issues surrounding data innovation.

 

Kicking off his presentation with a quote from Dan Ariely, Duke University:

“Big data is like teenage sex: everyone talks about it, nobody really knows how to do it, everyone thinks everyone else is doing it, so everyone claims they are doing it…”

Charles challenged and questioned the audience of high-level IT Executives to compete in the dynamic environment via data and to gather visible, actionable insight. Closing his presentation on his tips on how businesses should prepare on incidents of data leakage or loss.
